Privacy and wellness: how Aura protects your most sensitive data

Data about your mood, habits and health is the most private there is. Here is why privacy is at the centre of every technical decision at Aura.

🔒

The problem with traditional wellness apps

Most fitness and wellness apps make money by selling your data. Your sleep patterns, menstrual cycle, stress levels, geographic location during walks — all of it ends up in a data broker marketplace where insurers, employers and advertisers can buy it. They don't tell you explicitly, but it's in the terms of service that nobody reads.

The Aura approach: privacy by design

Aura was built with privacy as a fundamental requirement, not a bolt-on feature. This means difficult architectural decisions from the start: no third-party analytics, no advertising SDKs, no behavioural tracking.

🔒 Our privacy principles

  • Zero data sales to third parties — ever
  • Mood/journal data end-to-end encrypted
  • AI analysis happens on-device where possible
  • Full data export in 1 click (GDPR)
  • Account deletion = total deletion
  • No advertising SDKs

How we earn without selling data

The legitimate question is: if you don't sell data, how does Aura sustain itself? The answer is simple: premium subscription and AURI token economy. The classic freemium model — basic features free, advanced ones paid — doesn't require monetising user data. This is how every app should work.

Anonymous data for the common good

There is one exception: the Aura Pulse feature shows an anonymous global heatmap of habits. If millions of people complete meditation at 7:00, this aggregated and anonymised data can help other users understand global patterns. But it's aggregated, anonymous, and never sold.

GDPR compliance and certifications

Aura is fully compliant with the European GDPR. You can export all your data in JSON format with one click, request complete deletion of your account (including Firestore data), and object to processing at any time. Our DPO is reachable at privacy@useaura.it.

The future: zero-knowledge wellness

The next step for Aura is integrating zero-knowledge proofs for Arena challenges: you'll be able to prove you completed your habits without revealing which ones. Blockchain as a tool for privacy, not surveillance. This is the future of digital wellness.

Your wellness. Yours alone.
